As this year draws to a close, I find myself reflecting on the lessons I’ve learned over the past twelve months; insights that have brought clarity, strength, and perspective. Each experience, whether joyful or challenging, has left me with wisdom I’ll carry forward into 2025. Here are the lessons that have shaped me this year and that I’ll keep with me as I continue my journey.

1. Not All You Lose Is a Loss

Life sometimes takes things away, but not everything that leaves was meant to stay. Losing something or someone can be a blessing in disguise, creating space for something better.

2. They Weren’t “The One” If They Didn’t Choose You Back

True love and connection are mutual. If someone didn’t choose me, they weren’t meant for me. I deserve someone who’s as committed to me as I am to them.

3. It’ll All Work Out in the End

Things may not unfold as I had hoped, but they still work out in ways I might not have anticipated. This year taught me to trust the process, even when I can’t see where it’s leading.

4. Today Is the Youngest You’ll Ever Be

This moment is precious, and it’s fleeting. I’m learning to embrace the now, as every day is a gift that won’t come around again.

5. Dwelling on the Past or Worrying About the Future Steals from the Present

I’ve realized how easy it is to get lost in what was or what might be, but doing so robs me of the beauty of today. The present is where life actually happens.

6. In This Moment, I Am Safe, and My Needs Are Met

Finding peace in the present moment, I can remind myself that right now, I am safe, and my needs are met. This grounding thought brings calm amidst uncertainty.

7. What Feels Good Now Might Not Be What’s Best for Me Later

Instant gratification isn’t always worth it. Making choices with my future self in mind helps me stay aligned with my goals.

8. Make Choices That Benefit Your Future Self

Everything I do now affects the person I’m becoming. Each choice can bring me closer to the life I want and the person I aspire to be.

9. Stop Going Out of Your Way for People Who Don’t Show Up for You

Effort should be mutual. I’ve learned not to overextend myself for people who won’t even reciprocate with a simple reply.

10. Big Love Doesn’t Always Mean It’s the Right Love

Sometimes, love feels intense but isn’t built to last. This year taught me that just because the love is big, it doesn’t mean that the love is right.

11. Ego Speaks Loudly; Intuition Speaks Softly

Ego comes in strong, demanding attention, but intuition is quiet and wise. Listening to that gentle inner voice leads to better choices.

12. Time with Loved Ones Is Invaluable

Life’s most meaningful moments come from spending time with the people I love. It’s a reminder that relationships and memories matter more than anything material.

13. Anything You Lose Wasn’t Truly Meant for You

I’m letting go of the idea of “losing” anything. If it left my life, it wasn’t meant to stay, and something better will take its place.

14. You Can’t Force Timing, Destiny, or Fate

I’m learning to let go of the need to control everything. What’s meant for me will arrive in its own time.

15. We Can’t Control Others’ Actions, but We Can Control Our Boundaries

People may hurt us, but I can decide how much access they have to my life. Setting boundaries is an act of self-respect and self-care.

16. A Leopard Doesn’t Change Its Spots

Giving people endless chances only leads to disappointment. If someone shows you who they are, believe them the first time.

17. Self-Love Is an Action, Not Just a Feeling

Loving myself means treating myself with kindness, making choices that honor my worth, and standing up for my needs, daily.

18. Be with People Who Make You Love Yourself More, Not Less

I want to surround myself with people who bring out the best in me, not those who drain me or make me doubt myself.

19. You’re Not for Everyone

Not everyone will understand or appreciate me, and that’s okay. I don’t need to convince anyone to love or accept me.

20. Some People Are Here for a Season, Not Forever

Not everyone is meant to stay in my life. Some bring smiles, others bring tears. Both are valuable, even if the endings are bittersweet.

21. Life Begins Now

There’s no reason to wait for a “perfect time” to start enjoying life. Happiness isn’t something to postpone.

22. There’s More to Life Than Being Pretty

This year, I’ve learned to focus on qualities that matter: kindness, intelligence, authenticity. There’s so much more to value in myself than just appearances.

23. Boundaries Are My Best Friend

Setting boundaries isn’t selfish; it’s a necessary form of self-respect. Boundaries protect my energy and help me prioritize my peace.

24. Stop Postponing Happiness

I don’t need to wait for everything to be perfect to allow myself to be grateful. Choosing joy now brings more joy into my future.

25. Everyone Brings You Closer to Your “Yes”

Every person I meet brings me closer to what’s truly meant for me. Even the “no’s” are stepping stones toward my purpose.

26. Health Is Everything

Nothing is more important than my well-being. Physical, mental, and emotional health are the foundation for everything else in life.

27. The More Time You Spend on Your Phone, the More You Miss Real Life

Every minute spent on my phone is time I’m not truly living. I want to be present for the moments that matter.

28. You May Not Be Where You Want to Be, But You’re Where You’re Meant to Be

This year, I’m learning to trust that even if I’m not where I had hoped to be, I am exactly where I need to be.

29. Be Gentle with Yourself on Your Hardest Days

The days when I feel the most self-critical are the days I need to be the kindest to myself. Compassion isn’t just for others, it’s for me, too.

30. Learn to Be Attracted to What’s Good For You.

Learn to be turned on by green, not red flags. Too often, we find ourselves drawn to relationships that stir up anxiety or uncertainty, thinking that intensity means passion or love. But true connection is rooted in safety, trust, and peace. Pay attention to the people who make you feel grounded and supported, not those who trigger your insecurities. A healthy relationship should lift you up, not weigh you down. When you start prioritizing your well-being over drama or discomfort, you’ll find that the right people, those who genuinely bring out the best in you (and your nervous system), will become more apparent. Seek out the people who nurture, encourage, and respect you rather than getting caught in cycles with those who make you feel unsure of yourself.

As I move into this next year, I carry these lessons with me as my roadmap, knowing they’ll guide me toward a more mindful life. Here’s to embracing every moment and allowing the wisdom of 2024 to shape a deeply rewarding year ahead; one filled with purpose, intention, and growth. We may not always get it right, but we always get to know ourselves more, nonetheless 🖤
